A truck driver from Maddington, Western Australia is facing court after police witnessed him veering his truck onto the wrong side of a rural highway.

The police were alerted of a truck driving erratically on the Eyre Highway and when highway patrols tracked the road train down, it swerved over the central lane several times. Police also saw the truck veer into the oncoming lane and drive for almost 100 metres on the wrong side of the road.

The 55 year old driver was stopped and ordered to take a 7 hour rest break.

Police will allege the man was extremely fatigued. In addition to being ordered to cease driving for 7 hours, he was also reported for driving while impaired by fatigue.

The driver will appear in court later this year.

Just one day prior a truck driver was found guilty by a jury of dangerous driving causing death when he drove on to the oncoming lane and collided with a car. The car was being driven by a schoolteacher, who lost her life as a result of the crash.

He is facing a maximum penalty of 15 years in jail. He says he was coughing behind the wheel, while prosecutors believe he was distracted by his girlfriend who he had in the cab with him.
