A truck driver was trapped in his vehicle after it ran into the back of another garbage truck. The other driver was also trapped in the wreckage. Although any incident involving a heavy vehicle can be serious, incidents involving 2 trucks have the potential to cause even more destruction and damage, as well as inconvenience as roads have to be closed until the wreckage is cleared. Read this post from the police website which details the incident: A man remains trapped after his garbage truck ran into the back of another garbage truck at Auburn this morning. The crash happened about 5am today (Friday 8 February) and blocked westbound lanes of Parramatta Road. The driver of the second truck is trapped in the wreckage. Emergency service personnel are working to free him. One lane eastbound is open however traffic is disrupted, and diversions are in place. http://www.police.nsw.gov.au/news/latest_releases Although the reason for the crash has not yet been identified, it is safe to say that most incidents of this nature occur due to speeding or failure to brake in time due to faulty brakes caused by lack of vehicle maintenance, impaired concentration caused by alcohol or drugs or something similar. Speeding in addition to being the number one cause of deaths on Aussie roads, is also the number one cause of crashes on the whole. For heavy vehicles speeding is a particularly dangerous practice because it drastically increases the stopping distances needed, which are already higher on trucks than they are for smaller vehicles. Speeding is also dangerous for passenger vehicles, but even more so on heavy vehicles because it increases the risk of crashing as well as the severity of the crash.
