Another truck rollover has occurred at a Bendigo roundabout recently causing the driver of the vehicle to be trapped by the legs for more than an hour. The driver had to have six members of the Bendigo SES unit cut away the top of the cabin to free the man who was trapped by the legs.’

The 60 year old truck driver was trapped when his truck flipped onto its side at a roundabout in Mitchell Street in the afternoon. The driver’s lower legs were crushed. He was in severe pain and had to be rushed to Bendigo hospital in a stable condition. The truck flipped onto its side spilling out its load of debris onto the road.

While some road accidents involving heavy vehicles are more serious than others, truck rollovers are the kind of accident that is particularly threatening to drivers. For example if a driver crashes into a light motor vehicle, the passengers of the light motor vehicle are more likely to be injured than the driver is, whereas if the truck rolls there is more of a chance that the driver will also be injured as this incident proves.

It is easier for a fully loaded truck to rollover and capsize than it is for a light motor vehicle, it’s just physics, in fact it is more common for a truck to rollover than it is for a truck to skid. There are numerous causes of heavy vehicles flipping but as long as you as the driver have done your part (ie. adhered to Chain of Responsibility rules) the chances of you suffering a rollover a minimal. That is why it is so important for everyone in the chain to understand their role, in order to do so they need to undergo Chain of Responsibility (COR) training.

In addition to being a legal requirement, it also enhances a driver’s (or anyone involved in the road transport chain) safety knowledge. COR training can be completed online, at a time and place most convenient for you. Simply visit our homepage for more information or to sign up.
