Truck Collides with Coal Train in Toowoomba

A truck has collided with a coal train at a crossing in Toowoomba. Fortunately nobody was injured or killed. Truck drivers need to be extra careful when crossing railway lines because it is riskier for trucks than it is for other light motor vehicles but no vehicle should take chances when it comes to trains. Emergency services were called in to the incident on Jandowae Road in Toowoomba and the road was closed for almost an hour while the scene was investigated. This is an issue that is particular problematic not only in Oz but around the world because according to statistics 95 per cent of crashes at railway crossings are caused by driver error. The biggest enemy to road safety, pertaining to trucks and all other motor vehicles are inattention, driver distraction, risk taking, disobeying the rules of the road or ignorance of the rules of the road. Truck drivers, and all other motorists need to realise that trains travel faster than you think and unlike cars, trains cannot come to a quick stop when they hit the brakes. Almost every crash between trucks and trains is caused by truck driver error because for some or the other reason the driver failed to stop at the railway crossing or tried to dash in front of the train, believing that they could make it across safely, train drivers can do little to avoid accidents with trucks at level crossings.
