According to reports the nation’s Easter road death toll has risen to at least 7 following 2 fatal crashes which took place in New South Wales.

On Easter Saturday afternoon a tragic accident took place which claimed the life of a cyclist who was struck down by a car on Sydney’s north shore. The man was hit by a Mercedes sedan whose driver was uninjured in the crash but was taken to hospital for urine and blood tests.

This cyclist was struck down just 2 and a half hours after another crash which happened when a truck and car collided in the north of NSW at Tyndale. Although the truck driver and his passenger survived the crash, they did suffer some injury and had to be treated at Coffs Harbour Hospital. The other party, the man driving the car was not so lucky –he didn’t survive the collision.

These tragedies are being investigated by police who have also urged witnesses to come forward with any information they may have.

But these are just 2 of the crashes that have taken place over the Easter weekend. There have also been crashes in Western Australia, Queensland and Tasmania which have resulted in fatalities.

In Western Australia there were 3 people killed, all young men between the ages of 17 and 20. In Tasmania a Chinese tourist was killed in a crash and in Queensland a woman was killed after being hit by a car.

The Easter holiday is notorious for road accidents and each year police work tirelessly to ensure motorists are staying safe and doing the right thing.
On Thursday an elderly woman was killed when she was hit by a station wagon while crossing the road in Beaudesert, south of Brisbane. The 67 year old woman died while being transported to hospital by emergency services.

On the same day in another part of the country a 17 year old boy was killed when he flung from the car he was travelling in. The car he was in rolled several times near the West Australian town of Carnarvon.

The boy from East Carnarvon was taken to the hospital for treatment but sadly could not be revived. Only a few hours later another young man, just 20 years old was killed when his Ford Falcon ute collided with a tree on Collie-Williams road near Collie. There was another passenger in the Ford Falcon, a 22 year old who was also injured. The young man was luckily pulled from the burning wreckage by a passing motorist and resuscitated in hospital.

In a separate incident on Thursday night another young man, a 19 year old from Bruce Rock died when his car hit into a large tree in Perth East near Bruce Rock. It is not known what caused the man to lose control of the vehicle and crash into the tree.

On the same night a Chinese tourist died when the vehicle she was travelling in was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle on a highway in Tasmania.
These tragic incidents prove just how cautious we need to be especially around the holidays when speeding, drink driving and a higher volume of vehicles on our roads increase the risk of crashes.
