The use of precast concrete wall panels is growing around Australia and so too is the need to safely transport this massive cargo. This has given rise to a warning from WorkSafe WA to all those involved in this transportation to ensure they follow strict safe work practices.

Recently WorkSafe WA Commissioner Lex McCulloch reminded employers to ensure they complied with the relevant Australian Standard and national Code of Practice.

As McCulloch pointed out, there are laws that cover the transportation and delivery process, some fall under WorkSafe’s jurisdiction and others under the Main Roads Western Australia jurisdiction.

McCulloch also pointed out that Australian Standard AS3850-2003 Tilt-up Concrete Construction lists the procedures necessary when working with precast panels.

Also laws came into effect last year covering the ‘Chain of Responsibility’ in road transport enforceable by Main Roads WA.  Source: http://www.ownerdriver.com.au/industry-news/1605/worksafe-wa-issues-precast-concrete-transport-warning/
