Truck Driver Fined for Tampering with Speed Limiter

A truck driver was recently stopped by police on Forrester Road, St Marys, then discovered that the vehicle’s speed limiter had been tampered with.

Police said an engine control module downloaded revealed that the vehicle could reach top speeds of 159km/h, instead of the maximum legal speed limit in NSW which is 100km/h for trucks weighing more than 4.5 tonnes.

The driver, a 29 year old male was fined and the heavy vehicle defected.

Authorities were prompted to conduct heavy vehicle searches after a truck crash on the M1 recently. Police have vowed to continue with heavy vehicle compliance enforcement.
