Garbage truck drivers caught with drugs in their system during their suburban runs have been allowed to keep their licences.
The drugs were detected in urine samples collected at work. Some of the drugs detected include cannabis, methamphetamine and tranquillisers.
Media reports say 6 drivers were caught with drugs in their system this year, and all work for the inner-city council Moreland. The drivers were allowed to keep their jobs because the company is not required to inform police of the drug test results. This means that drivers not only avoid fines, loss of licence and job but also avoid a criminal conviction, however any further transgressions will result in termination of employment for these drivers.
