A horror crash in the South African country-side has claimed the lives of 26 train passengers.

The crash involving a truck and passenger train happened after the holidays when the train driver allegedly attempted to cross over the tracks ahead of an oncoming train.

The train burst into flames and some passengers were trapped inside their carriages.

In addition to the 26 people killed, more than 200 were injured including the train driver and assistant. The driver of the truck escaped unscathed.
