NSW Launches Transport Industry

Isuzu Australia boss Phil Taylor has flagged the recruitment crisis in the trucking industry, urging stakeholders to act to ensure the future of the transport and logistics sector, following an in-depth review of the latest Census employment data.

The figures reveal that the industry’s workforce is ageing and not growing in line with demand for freight which is rising.

In the 2001 Census, the average age of workers in the industry was 35-44 and in last years Census the average age of workers in the industry was between 45-54.

Taylor together with Volvo Group Australia (VGA) president and CEO Peter Voorhoeve flagged the looming recruitment crisis in the industry, with drivers in particularly short supply. He highlights that shortages in the transport and logistics sector will actually affect all Australians.
