Truck drivers on the Newell Highway who alerted police to a dangerous driver have been thanked by police.

The drivers used their 2 way radios to inform police of a dangerous driver in a Holden Apollo on the highway near Gilgandra.

Police witnessed the male driver driving along the extreme shoulder, almost colliding with a bridge barrier and weaving over the centre lane. They were able to arrest the man.

The driver returned a positive breath test and was arrested and taken to Gilgandra Police Station.
