A timber company in Townsville has been charged $210,000 after an incident involving a truck driver in 2016. WorkSafe Queensland revealed that the transport driver was delivering goods to the company when the accident occurred that claimed his life.
Another worker in a company-owned forklift was unloading from one side of the truck while the driver was out of view on the other side releasing a loading strap. The forklift operator dislodged a load of timber which fell and crushed the truck driver, fatally wounding him.
In addition to the $210,000 fine, the company was also ordered to pay court costs of almost $1,100.
