A toddler and a 49-year-old woman are in hospital with serious injuries after a car they were passengers in collided with a prime mover and truck in Welshpool yesterday morning.

About 10.40am a silver Suzuki hatchback smashed into the back of the white Kenworth prime mover and a blue Isuzu truck, both of which were stationary in adjacent lanes at a red traffic light at the intersection of Orrong Road and McDowell Street.

A three-year-old child, who was a rear passenger in the Suzuki, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital by ambulance before being transferred to Perth Children’s Hospital. The toddler is in a serious but stable condition this morning.

The 49-year-old woman was the front passenger and was also transported to Fiona Stanley Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver, a 29-year-old female believed to be the mother of the child, received minor injuries.

Police are investigation and would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the crash or the silver Suzuki hatchback prior to the incident.

Anyone with any information relating to this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au
