NTC Boss Paul Retter has once again stated his call for a single system to avoid unnecessary duplication in Australian heavy vehicle accreditation. He was responding to a detailed probe announced by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) into the workings of sometimes competing schemes including the NTC’s own. Mr Retter said he welcomed the announcement of the independent review and made a strong call for the single model 3 years ago when the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS) was being examined. He, together with NHVR CEO Sal Petrocitto said this was an opportunity to ensure Australia’s current heavy vehicle accreditation scheme arrangements were based on international standards and local best practice guidelines. He said the review would hopefully end in better safety outcomes for all road users.
