As truckies we can never underestimate the damage we can do with our trucks and the lives that can be affected. That is one of the reasons why the chain of responsibility legislature is so important and why it should be followed.
An incident which took place in Melbourne has left one young female in a critical condition in hospital after being hit by a garbage truck on an evening out.
The woman in her twenties was hit by the truck when the driver failed to stop at the corner of Elizabeth and Lonsdale Streets after 4:30am on Saturday.
Following the accident, police arrested the 40 year old driver from Wallan as the woman laid critical at Royal Melbourne Hospital.
The police are reviewing the CCTV footage taken of the area and asking for witnesses to come forward and assist.
Something that this incident makes abundantly clear is the need to not only obey the rules of the road and always be on the lookout for pedestrians, but also how important it is to remain alert and vigilant regardless of the time of day. Even if you do not expect for pedestrians to be around, do not skip stop signs and neglect road rules – that is how tragedies occur.
