Speed Limiter Tampering Rife in Road Freight

The trucking industry seems to be taking the issue of speeding too lightly if the number of vehicles caught with tampered speed limiters is anything to go by.

NSW police are concerned and frustrated by the number of truckies still engaging in the illegal act of tampering with speed limiters. Recently police detected tampered speed limiters as well as a radar detector and sling shot while conducting a heavy vehicle inspection at Marulan.

The 2 trucks involved had tampered speed limiters but one of them had a radar detector fitted and another had a sling shot under the cabin.

Other methods of evading speed prosecution that were detected during the inspection included using dodgy number plates in addition to speed limiter tampering.

Police expressed their distress about this because they have put a lot of effort recently into campaigns to target heavy vehicles and make our roads safer but drivers are continuing to flout the law, placing their lives and the lives of other innocent road users at risk.

Speed is the biggest killer on Australian roads, so don’t be irresponsible and take chances by tampering with speed limiters. Other truck drivers and owners should be aware of these incidents because not only are they liable to fines but their trucks have been grounded which can be costly and even crippling to a business.
