The Australian Trucking Association (ATA) has created the event Trucking Australia 2013 that will be held at Hamilton Island on Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd June 2013. This is an opportunity for all delegates to give input and help shape the future of the trucking industry. According to Stuart St Clair the Chief Executive of the Australian Trucking Association the industry has some critical issues that need to be solved. According to Mr St Clair safety needs to be improved and there is a critical lack of trained staff that needs to be addressed. Other concerns include the effects of the newly introduced carbon tax on the industry and the new road charges and understanding how these will affect trucking operators. He said that, as the next federal election is on the horizon that the event provides a good opportunity for everyone working in the industry to get together and strategise for the future. Mr St Clair said that Trucking Australia 2013 will be held as an open meeting. There will not be presentations or keynote speakers and everyone regardless of who they are will be able to air their views and share experiences as well take part in:
  • Building a safety plan for the trucking industry
  • Creating a strategy for dealing with carbon taxes and road charges
  • Plan a way to address the current staff shortages in the industry – what are the possibilities of attracting more women and also younger drivers?
  • Create a plan for how to implement these ideas and to turn them into positive results for the industry – what methods will garner the best results?
There will also be a small group media intensive training course that will have limited places available. Each participant in this group will have the opportunity to be a part of a television interview simulation to give them the skills they need to talk about the industry to the media. The ATA Foundation Sponsor Awards Dinner will also be a part of the two-day event that will present the 2013 National Trucking Industry Awards. Registrations are open now see the ATA Website http://www.truckingaustralia.com.au/media/media-releases/registrations-now-open-trucking-australia-2013.
