Results of the latest South Australian Police service blitz on heavy vehicles on the South Eastern Freeway descent have been released and revealed a number of driving breaches.
The Heavy Vehicle Enforcement Section operation took place from March 28 to April 1, and during the operation 78 heavy vehicles were pulled over.
There were 67 drivers issued with expiation notices in total. Twenty one of the notices were for failing to use low gear and 10 for failing to use the left lane during descent.
Heavy vehicle regulation breaches including logbook breaches were also a problem, with 36 driver being issued with expiations.
During the blitz, police issued 37 major defect notices and 4 minor defect notices.
Police expressed their disappointment with the results and said they would continue to pay attention to heavy vehicle maintenance. Operators and owners have been advised to monitor the condition of their vehicles.
