Vehicle safety is not confined to the roads, employers are also being urged to ensure the safety of people around vehicles in the workplace.

The call has come after WorkSafe WA conducted a number of inspections over the 2015-2016 period focusing on the effective management of vehicles in the workplace.

The watchdog said the movement and speed of vehicles needs to be effectively managed by employers to reduce the risk of injury and employers need to design the workplace and keep it in a condition that ensures the safety of workers and other pedestrians and drivers at all times.

During the inspections, WorkSafe found that a particular area of concern is where pedestrians and vehicles interact.

A Guidance Note has been prepared on safe movement of vehicles at workplaces and workplaces have been urged to familiarise themselves with it.
