According to the latest Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) figures, the number of fatal crash numbers involving heavy articulated and rigid trucks has risen over the last 3 years.
The figures show a 1.6 per cent year increase for articulated and 6.2 per cent for rigid, over the last quarter of calendar year 2016.
Over the last year, articulated fatal crashes declined by 5.9 per cent but rigid fatal crashes rose 6.8 per cent.
Over the year, there were 95 fatal articulated crashes, claiming a total of 108 lives.
