A recent heavy vehicle blitz by New South Wales Police in Sydney resulted in 33 defect notices being issued and 22 infringements detected.
The 2 day operation was conducted by the joint traffic taskforce consisting of heavy vehicle inspectors with the aim of getting dangerous heavy vehicles off the road.
Operation Catapult, as it was dubbed resulted in officers finding speed limiter tampering with some trucks being able to travel in excess of 150km/h, 50km/h over the legal limit.
During the blitz, 75 trucks and trailers were inspected with 14 electronic speed limiter downloads conducted and 4 of these being identified as non-compliant.
Traffic & Highway Patrol command assistant commissioner Michael Corboy reminds us that these operations are for the safety of all roadusers. He also warned operators and drivers that they would not get away with owning or driving trucks that are non-compliant.
