According to Australia’s peak road safety body, The Australasian College of Road Safety, Autonomous Braking Technology should be installed in all new vehicles and trucks to save lives and prevent incidents like the ones that occurred in Nice and Berlin where trucks ploughed into crowds of people. They are calling on the government to mandate Autonomous Braking technology immediately to protect Australians. The Australasian College of Road Safety say road fatalities are alarmingly high and mandatory autonomous braking  for the entire new fleet would save lives. They said in the event of a terror attack using vehicles, the system could significantly reduce fatalities. In addition to the risk of a terror attack using a truck, we also need to address the issue of the rising road death toll, Australasian College of Road Safety president, Lauchlan McIntosh, said . Although the government has remained mum on whether it was considering the issue, the Australian Automobile Association agreed that the technology was proven to save lives.
