Making Truck Fleets Safer

Geoff Crouch, Chair of the Australian Trucking Association has called for the Australian and state governments to set a start date for the introduction of the strong new truck laws scheduled to start in 2018. He was responding to the media stories about truck safety published over the weekend.

The ATA and members advocated strongly for the new laws which include a new primary safety duty for all companies in the road freight transport chain of responsibility. The laws extend to maintenance, a due diligence obligation on company executives and a significant maximum penalty increase.

The laws are aimed at stopping large industry customers from pressurizing trucking businesses into unsafe practices.

While we know the laws come into effect in 2018, we do not have a start date as yet, which Mr Crouch said was needed to focus the attention of industry customers.  Read more at http://www.truck.net.au/media/media-releases/governments-must-set-start-date-new-truck-laws
