The horrific crash involving a B-Double on the Newell Highway north of Dubbo in NSW which claimed the lives of a 19 year old passenger and her boyfriend when a truck slammed into six vehicles stopped at roadworks, has led to some controversial suggestions by Roads Minister Melinda Pavey.
Minister Pavey suggested truck drivers be given in-cab devices that notice when they take their eyes off the road and administer an electric shock, alerting them.
The minister’s comments were described as offensive, dangerous and heartless by the Transport Workers Union (TWU).
