Truck Industry Wants $12m to Tackle Road Safety

The trucking industry wants a cash injection of $12million from the government for road safety. The Australian Trucking Association (ATA) is calling for a National Road Safety Commission and wants the Australian Transport Safety Bureau to assume responsibility for investigating truck crashes. The ATA says the government should spend another $8 million over the next 4 years on safety initiatives for heavy vehicles. It was recently revealed that deaths from truck crashes in NSW rose by 86 per cent last year. In 2016 there were 29 deaths and in 2017 the number rose to 54.
