ATA Calls for Zero Road Deaths

The Australian Trucking Association (ATA) has called for the national road safety strategy to adopt a zero death and serious injury approach – “Towards Zero”.

The goal and a number of other issues have been identified by the ATA in a submission to the Australian Government’s inquiry into the next National Road Safety Strategy.

ATA Chair Geoff Crouch said the strategy incorporates developments in safe roads, safe vehicles, safe speeds and safe people.

He said target setting is vital to this and a 5 year plan would be more conducive and achievable than the traditional ten year strategy.

Some of the recommendations include mandatory electronic stability control for all new trucks, better roads and truck rest stations, reform of fatigue laws and improved education for learner drivers about sharing the safely with trucks. There are 19 recommendations in total. See more at https://www.ownerdriver.com.au/industry-news/1803/industry-calls-for-zero-deaths-on-roads
