According to new research, most fatal truck crashes around the country are caused by cars and not trucks. The tragic part is that these crashes are avoidable, which is why Australia’s biggest truck insurer National Transport Insurance is urging all drivers to be careful around trucks and give them the space they need.

The insurer deals with 13,000 crash claims a year and say there is a negative public perception of truck safety but data shows that cars are actually to blame in most crashes involving trucks.

The National Transport Insurer urged motorists to give trucks the space and respect they deserve on the road, blaming cars for 93 per cent of crashes.

While the insurer called for caution during the festive season, truck drivers say the roads are often erratic, not just around the festive season, this is certainly a message the public needs to hear all year round.
