Senator Glenn Sterle is concerned about the state of truck driver licensing and has promised to keep tackling the issue in the new year as he chairs the Senate inquiry.
He explained that highlighting the problem was important, with some of the issues being criminal.
He said some private companies running this should be put into administration with evidence of fraud and corruption emerging in Queensland, NSW and Victoria.
He said he is also aware of the burden relating to red tape and the price of doing business that mounting regulation will result in, adding that a system where its too expensive to be a truck driver would not work.
He also added that safety is the main priority and that corners could not be cut when it comes to training drivers.
