A special safety truck has hit Australia’s roads to educate drivers about how to drive safely around trucks.
The Australian Trucking Association’s chief executive Ben Maguire was first to climb into the cabin of the safety truck, unveiled in November.
The truck, a Volvo FH Prime Mover was the 60,000th truck to be built at the Volvo plant in Queensland at Wacol. The vehicle will tow the ATA’s safety exhibition around the country.
The CEO said the truck would help fill the gap in driver education, teaching car drivers about how to safely drive around trucks.
The ATA said 8 out of 10 fatal crashes between trucks and cars were not the fault of the truck driver. He went on to explain that 1300 people died each year on Australian roads, so this is a crucial message.
