Inattention was blamed for the crash which witnesses say occurred when the car traveling on the Lyell Highway towards Hobart crossed into the path of a fully laden truck traveling towards New Norfolk around 12:50pm. The driver of the car crossed the double white lines and crashed into the truck, which subsequently dropped its load of logs all over the highway. The 34 year old driver of the car was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a critical condition. The 63 year old driver of the truck was also taken to hospital for blood tests. The road remained closed for several hours as the scene was cleared.
