A drink driver has been convicted after ramming into the back of a parked truck while attempting to light a cigarette and talking on her mobile phone, in a case that highlights the dangers of drink driving and distracted driving.
During the court case, the driver was admonished by Magistrate Ron Muirhead who called her behaviour “extremely bad”.
She pleaded guilty to charges relating to driving without due care and attention and driving while over the legal alcohol limit.
The woman also pleaded guilty to six other charges of stealing, driving while a relevant drug was present in her saliva, failing to properly dispose of a needle and syringe, possessing utensils or pipes that had been used and two counts of failing to appear in court in accordance with her undertaking.
Following the crash, the woman was breath tested by police and recorded a reading of 0.149.She also had methamphetamines in her saliva.
