Reduced Speed Trial Begin on Monash Freeway in Melbourne

A 10km stretch of the Monash Freeway in Melbourne has a new speed trial underway which will run for 18 months.

The trial involves trucks’ speed limit being reduced to 90km/h between Huntingdale Road and Jacksons Road.

Combined with the stretch between High Street in Ashburton and Glenferrie Road in Toorak where a similar trial is already underway, this makes the total area of the trial 20km.

The state government says the purpose of the trial is to determine the effectiveness of lowering the speed limit for trucks for improving road safety.

The premise is that with trucks travelling at a lower speed, other vehicles will be able to navigate around them more safely. It will also reduce the instances of tailgating. See more at https://www.fullyloaded.com.au/industry-news/1608/reduced-truck-speed-trial-underway-in-melbourne
