Truck drivers driving under the influence of drugs is still a major concern on South Australian roads, as an 8 hour police operation has revealed.

During an operation carried out a few weeks ago which took place over an 8 hour period, 20 drivers were found who tested positive for drugs. There were also 27 defect notices issued.

Police said truckies were still using illicit drugs like amphetamines to stay away, despite the adverse effects on their health and ability to operate a heavy vehicle safely. Drivers under the influence of drugs has slower reaction times, co-ordination and vehicle control are also affected as well as the driver’s mood, judgement, perception and information processing, police warned.
