Tanker Carry Radioactive Material Flips

After a tanker carrying potentially deadly, radioactive Cobalt 60 recently overturned, a 200 meter exclusion zone had to be set up by emergency personnel.

The truck was traveling towards Walcha where the material was going to be dropped off at the Lucas Heights Reactor.

The driver checked the tanker for leaks and was then transported to Gloucester Hospital for treatment.

The road had to be closed to the public as firefighters cleared the scene. The Cobalt 60 had to be handled with extreme care because of the ability to interfere with chemical bonds in a human’s DNA that can mutate and kill cells.
