According to WorkSafe Victoria, the quarry operator involved in a workplace fatality in 2016 has been convicted and fined following the death of a subcontractor.

The subcontractor died when his dump truck rolled on a stockpile.

The quarry operator was found guilty of contravening a section of the OHS Act by failing to ensure the workplace safe and without risks to workers.

WorkSafe health and safety executive director Julie Nielsen said this should serve as a reminder to employers that it is unacceptable to put the safety of any worker at risk by failing to identify hazards and not taking action on these hazards.
